Knicks Fans and “Lil Jalen” Doll Create Playoff Buzz
A New York Knicks fan has sparked quite a reaction online with her unique twist on supporting the team. Rachel Kim, a nurse from Manhattan, decided to give her Jalen Branson doll a playful makeover, dubbing it “Lil Jalen.” This became especially popular as the Knicks headed into the Eastern Conference playoffs.
In a TikTok video, Kim gave the doll a whimsical “ice bath” to protect its “ankles,” referencing Branson’s past injuries. This particular night, Branson exploded on the court, scoring 39 points and propelling the Knicks to a 121-113 victory over the Boston Celtics, putting them ahead 3-1 in the series.
Fans were quick to praise Kim’s efforts, with comments like “It worked!!!” and “You made this happen” lighting up social media.
Reflecting on the whirlwind of attention, Kim mentioned, “I was reading everything and laughing. Everyone is grateful to me… people say, ‘She’s an angel from above.'” She added that she just found the dolls cute and wanted to have some fun, not expecting any major impact.
During the critical moments of Game 4, Kim amusingly told the doll it needed an ice bath, which even drew a chuckle from Branson’s sister on social media.
Later, she shared a playful post on her way to work, joking that “New York City should refund you.” Now living in New Jersey, she feels the pressure to keep the good vibes going for the Knicks.
“Everyone tells me I have to continue doing this,” she said, adding, “To be honest, there’s been a lot of pressure. I feel like I have to keep doing this.”
Right before Game 5, Kim gave Lil Jalen some extra care by checking its “heart,” bandaging its legs, and even treating it to “Little R and R” with cucumbers on its eyes. Unfortunately, despite her efforts, the Knicks lost to the Celtics that game.
In recognition of her dedication, Kim scored two tickets for Game 6 from Stubhub, but she and her husband were in Paris for their honeymoon at that time. She took Lil Jalen on a tour around the city, letting the doll “chill” at the Eiffel Tower and enjoy a croissant.
The Parisian getaway seemed to work wonders. Branson scored 23 points in Game 6, leading the Knicks to a commanding 119-81 win over the Celtics, marking their first trip to the Eastern Conference Finals since 2000.
