Nick Wright suggests that the Knicks’ playoff series could significantly impact the game if they manage to defeat the Celtics.
During Thursday’s episode of “What’s Wright” on FS1, he mentioned that a loss for the Celtics might be beneficial for the overall health of basketball.
“It could potentially be one of the biggest losses ever,” he remarked. “Also, it could slow down the trend of professional basketball turning into a mere three-point shooting contest.”
Wright has been vocal against the NBA’s increasing focus on three-pointers, urging the league to adjust its rules in a manner similar to the recent changes in MLB to revitalize the sport.
“Watching a three-point contest isn’t as captivating as the NBA we grew up with,” he stated. “The talent pool is deeper now than ever, yet it seems like it should be even more skillful. The league might need some aggressive changes, similar to how baseball has tackled shifts and pitch clocks.”
In a recent Game 1 loss to the Knicks, the Celtics struggled mightily, missing an NBA playoff record of 45 three-pointers after shooting only 15 out of 60 attempts.
“The Boston Celtics are, frankly, reckless with their three-point attempts, as if they expect to just stroll into the championship without anyone challenging them until the rules are altered,” Wright commented.
Wright pointed out that when the number of games in a series is limited, it’s evident that if the Celtics are not performing up to par, they may not be as strong a team as many think. He highlighted that sports often react to such situations.

The Celtics continued their poor performance from beyond the arc in Game 2, only making 25% of their three-point attempts from 40 tries.
Ultimately, Boston suffered a narrow defeat, losing to the Knicks 91-90, allowing New York to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.
