Of course Hunter Biden was guilty. It took a Delaware jury, with its family reputation at stake, just three hours to find that.
His defense was frankly ridiculous: Biden was a drug addict — he wrote a book and made recordings about it — and his lawyers argued that he had no intention of lying on federal forms because he wasn’t using drugs on the day, week, or every other Tuesday that he bought the handgun.
Result: Guilty on all three felonies.
Hunter Biden’s ex-business associate drops charges in gun trial: ‘distraction’ from ‘influence tactics’
The only real mystery is why Hunter didn’t plead guilty and spare his father the personal and political embarrassment of having all his dirty secrets exposed in public court. Federal prosecutors were clearly pushing for a settlement. The testimony of Hunter’s ex-wives, the excruciating text messages, all of this could have been avoided.
He would have ended up going to prison either way.
But the Biden Justice Department convicted the president’s son despite Republican criticism that law enforcement was being weaponized against them — something that’s hard to imagine happening in many parts of the world.

In fact, that same Justice Department is currently prosecuting two other prominent Democrats, Senator Bob Menendez and his bullion bribery case, as well as Representative Henry Cuellar.
This must have come as a huge emotional blow to Joe Biden, who was in Wilmington last night to be with his son, essentially repeating his comments from last week.
“I accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Mr. Hunter considers his appeal,” the president said, ruling out the possibility of a pardon. He said he and his wife are “very proud of who Hunter is now.”
Biden’s mental competence in doubt
Despite hours of cable TV news coverage, Joe Biden created an awkward moment by not mentioning the issue, even while speaking at a forum on gun safety. But Biden wasn’t going to say what his critics wanted.
Given that Donald Trump is also a convicted felon (and I am not comparing the two cases), you would think that Trump and his allies would have the media give Hunter Biden’s conviction a lot of press. But that is not the case.

A Trump campaign spokesman said, “This trial is nothing more than a distraction from the real crimes of the Biden crime family, who have extorted tens of millions of dollars from China, Russia and Ukraine. The villainous Joe Biden’s control of the Biden crime family will come to an end on November 5th. Biden will never again sell access to government for personal gain.”
So we have gone from arguing that Hunter Biden must be convicted immediately to arguing that this is merely a diversion. The felony gun case has nothing to do with his father, who repeatedly encouraged him to stop drinking. A second, more serious criminal trial on tax evasion may have limited parental roles.

But the “Biden crime family” phrasing is a direct attack on the then-Vice President’s son’s attempt to use his surname to profit from an international business venture for which he was clearly not qualified – so there’s a deliberate shifting of the goalposts here.
Let’s not forget that after months of investigation, House Republicans have been unable to produce any evidence that Joe Biden received a dime, although he did apparently use some bland phone calls and a few lunches to help his son expand his business, and the committee’s main source was indicted for lying.
Special Counsel David Weiss told reporters yesterday that the gun cases show that “no one is above the law,” but he also suggested the government would not recommend harsher sentences than the general public.

Some would argue that this lawsuit should have been filed five years ago, but others would argue that there should never have been a lawsuit filed against Hunter Jones in the first place.
Such rare cases usually have to be linked to a larger crime, such as a president’s son robbing a bank with an illegally obtained gun. (Trump has argued that because he is the presidential front-runner, he is facing a flamboyant misdemeanor.)
However, Hunter only had the gun in his possession for 11 days before his mistress threw it in the trash.

A judge should sentence Hunter Biden around the time of the Democratic National Convention in August, with a second trial waiting to follow — terrible timing for the notorious son, who could have avoided this whole mess by pleading guilty.
