Stormy Weather Doesn’t Dampen Celebration

On Saturday, President Trump declared that the Army’s 250th anniversary parade will proceed through the streets of Washington, D.C., regardless of the challenging weather conditions, which include flash floods and thunderstorms.

“Our great military parades go on rain or shine. A rainy day parade brings good luck. See you all in DC,” Trump shared on social media. “This is a big day for America!”

Trump has always admired grand military displays, often comparing them to similar events in other countries. He has had discussions with D.C. officials about his desire for tanks to roll through the streets.

This year’s parade marks the anniversary of the Army’s founding on June 14, 1775—before the Declaration of Independence—and will showcase a variety of military hardware, including artillery and other vehicles.

In fact, the Army is hosting its first significant military parade in D.C. in about 34 years.

The parade’s route will feature a mix of military vehicles, with plans for 128 tanks, after the Army agreed to place protective measures along the parade path. Other military aircraft, such as Black Hawk and Apache helicopters, will also be part of the display.

The event is scheduled to start around 6:30 PM, beginning at 23rd Avenue NW near the Lincoln Memorial and passing notable landmarks like the Washington Monument and the White House, expected to conclude by 9:30 PM.

Over 6,600 soldiers from various branches are anticipated to participate in the celebration, which will include aerial displays, musical performances, and a parachute jump by the Army’s Golden Knights.

Interestingly, Saturday also marks Trump’s 79th birthday and Flag Day, coinciding with the anniversary of the official U.S. flag adopted on June 14, 1777.

Prior to the parade, various military events will take place at the National Mall, with the president expected to make remarks during the festivities.

To accommodate the parade, the Federal Aviation Administration plans to halt flights to Reagan National Airport during the event.

The parade is designed to narrate the Army’s history, beginning with the colonial period and the Battle of Lexington, featuring uniformed troops representing significant eras in the Army’s lengthy history.

Military organizers aim to conclude the parade with enlistment ceremonies, Golden Knights parachute jumps, and a fireworks display.

Officials predict the overall cost of the parade will range from $25 million to $45 million, excluding expenses for cleanup and any potential infrastructure damage.

While preparations are underway, a left-wing group has organized around 2,000 protests nationwide, observing a “day of rebellion” against Trump.

This parade in D.C. is notable as the first major military event since the first Gulf War ended over three decades ago.
