Survey Reveals MLB’s Most Foul-Mouthed Fans
When it comes to MLB teams with the most colorful language among their fans, some cities are pretty quick to spring to mind. Philadelphia is often one of them, at least for me.
But recent findings from Las Vegas Insider might just flip initial expectations. The fan base that tops the list for its foul language may surprise some, but, upon reflection, it makes a kind of sense.
That team? Surprisingly enough, it’s the Athletics. Once based in Philadelphia, they’re now caught in a sort of limbo as they await their move to Las Vegas.
Research Methodology
This ranking was obtained by analyzing the various subreddits for each of the 30 MLB teams, looking specifically at the percentage of posts that featured swear words.
The Athletics emerged as the top offenders, with 6.03% of their comments containing expletives — with “f–k” leading the charge. Following them are the Boston Red Sox, whose comments included four-letter words 5.114% of the time. I had a hunch they’d rank high on this list.
Other Notable Teams
Meanwhile, the Houston Astros found themselves halfway through the list, placing ninth for their choice of profanities.
I was a bit taken aback by the Athletics taking the top spot initially, but on second thought, the frustration from their underwhelming performance after leaving Oakland makes it clearer. Honestly, if my team relocated or played in a minor league venue for a stretch of time, I might not be too happy either.
The same survey also evaluated the overall tone of the comments, revealing that Boston Red Sox fans had the most negative sentiment, closely followed by the Athletics.
To be fair, this isn’t exactly surprising.
Here’s hoping Athletics fans see brighter days ahead. If not, they might just have to start keeping a few swear jars at the ballpark.
