A risqué joke by the ESPYs host about DJ Khaled surprisingly went unnoticed by Disney's censors.

Marcello Hernandez’s Jokes at ESPYs Stir Up Laughter

During the recent ESPYs on ABC, comedian Marcello Hernandez didn’t hold back with some cheeky remarks about DJ Khaled’s personal life. The moment seemed to align with what you might expect from Disney’s standards, which is interesting given their usual content guidelines.

As he introduced DJ Khaled alongside Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, Hernandez quipped, “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome three people who just refuse to go down,” eliciting laughter from the audience.

But what’s the story behind the joke? Back in 2018, Khaled found himself in the spotlight after an interview on the radio show The Breakfast Club. He talked candidly about his relationships and life choices.

In his own words, Khaled stated that if he’s supporting women, then it’s essential that women, in return, praise the “queen.” “But, you know, the way I compliment people is, ‘How was dinner? Do you like the house you live in?'” he explained, emphasizing his role in caring for both families.

When the subject turned to his then-girlfriend, Nicole Tuck, and the idea of placing blame, Khaled firmly replied, “No, absolutely. You can’t do that. Absolutely not.” He argued that establishing rules denying autonomy to women wouldn’t be appropriate.

Despite his strong stance, it’s interesting to note that he maintained, “The rules are different for men. Please understand that we are kings.” This perspective certainly sparked discussions, especially considering Khaled and Tuck have two sons together.

This year’s ESPYs marks a notable shift. Unlike the infamous 1998 moment when Norm MacDonald made headlines with an off-color joke about an intern, Hernandez’s comment stands out in an era where Disney usually steers clear of risqué humor. Given past controversies, such as Dan Le Batard facing censorship for referencing Rob Gronkowski in a provocative way, Hernandez’s light-hearted jibe still feels rather audacious.
