New Alex Rodriguez Documentary Directed by Red Sox Fan
The new documentary about Alex Rodriguez is being touted as objective, largely because it was directed by a well-known Red Sox enthusiast.
According to a source at the premiere of HBO Max’s three-part series, *Alex vs. ARod*, Gotham Chopra, the co-director, is “a huge Red Sox fan, so he hates the Yankees and always hated A-Rod. But Alex trusted him with this doc.”
Rodriguez, now 50, played for the Yankees for 12 seasons.
Another guest noted that Rodriguez managed to outshine the Boston-born coach in the film.
The documentary was produced by Religion of Sports, a venture co-founded by Chopra—who is the son of the renowned New Age figure Deepak Chopra—and NFL icons Tom Brady and Michael Strahan.
Among those attending the premiere were former Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia and his wife, Amber, announcers Michael Kay and Sujin Waldman, Rodriguez’s business partner with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Marc Rohr, Kevin Durant’s long-time agent Rich Kleiman, and of course, Rodriguez’s family.
During a Q&A at a screening in New York City, Rodriguez encountered a “touchy-feely” question and humorously replied, “I’m in this doc, but you shouldn’t listen to me for mental health advice, please, please.”
Several attendees remarked that the documentary offers a fascinating view. Released on November 6th and co-directed by Eric LeDrew, *Warts and All* is characterized as a raw and authentic portrayal of the polarizing baseball figure.
Reports indicate that HBO executives expressed their enthusiasm, calling it “one of the best docs they’d ever made.” A friend commented, “This is a side of Alex that we’ve never seen.”
