SNL Welcomes Edgy New Comedians, Including Trump Supporter
In a surprising twist, “Saturday Night Live” has welcomed five new comedians into its cast, set to start on October 4. Among them is Kam Patterson, who is known for his strong support for Trump and his unfiltered comedic style.
The new additions to this season’s lineup, which includes Ben Marshall, Tommy Brennan, Veronika Slowikowska, Jeremy Culhane, and Patterson, mark an interesting moment for the long-running show.
Patterson has developed a reputation for his bold comedy. He’s been a frequent guest on the stand-up podcast “Kill Tony,” where he’s shared some quite outrageous, yet funny, observations. For instance, he joked about intimacy coordinators, calling one “fat and bald,” and has tackled the awkwardness of unexpected moments during sex scenes, according to reports.
Additionally, Patterson hasn’t shied away from using the term “gay” in a more traditional, old-school sense, likening it to how straight men might respond to watching Bravo TV or referring to a golf mishap.
He’s also been open about his political journey—from being a non-voter to supporting Trump, especially after the assassination attempt against him. Patterson has added that while he believes in welcoming immigrants, they should ideally speak English.
Some see this hiring as a calculated move by SNL’s creator Lorne Michaels, recognizing the shifting cultural landscape that has favored more conservative voices. A few years ago, hiring someone like Patterson might have sparked significant backlash before he even stepped on stage. This was the case with comedian Shane Gillis in 2019, who was let go after old jokes emerged that many found offensive.
While there’s always a chance that Patterson could face similar scrutiny, the atmosphere appears different now. With Trump’s recent election, it seems that the influence of cancel culture and the online critics it fostered has waned.
