Softball Standout Sofia Knight Enters Transfer Portal
One of the top hitters in college softball is making headlines as she prepares to explore new opportunities.
Sofia Knight, a 5-foot-4 outfielder from Boise State, took to Instagram earlier this week to share her decision to join the transfer portal. This past season, she made waves by leading all Division I softball players with 103 hits—a record not just for Boise State but also for the Mountain West Conference.
Knight achieved a remarkable milestone as she became the first Division I NCAA softball player in 23 years to hit 100 times in a single season.
In her post, she mentioned, “After much prayer and reflection, I made the extremely difficult decision to enter the transfer portal. This was the most challenging choice of my life, but I feel like God is guiding me towards a new chapter for reasons I can’t fully explain. Boise will always feel like home to me. I carry the love, lessons, and faith I’ve gained here wherever I go.”
Her freshman year with the Broncos was nothing short of spectacular, earning her the title of Mountain West Freshman of the Year and a spot on Softball America’s freshman national team. This season, she was named to the All Mountain West First Team and was recognized by D1Softball.com as the seventh-best outfielder in the nation.
Beyond her impressive hit count, Knight ranks third nationwide in batting average with a remarkable .486 this season. She also recorded 63 runs, set a program record with five triples, stole 27 bases, and achieved an OPS of 1.080 in her sophomore year.
Boise State finished the season with a solid 34-22 record, though they faced challenges during the Mountain West Tournament in Nevada and San Diego.
Originally from Huntington Beach, California, Knight’s career stats highlight her impressive performance: 188 hits, 30 walks, and only 36 strikeouts over 422 at-bats, combined with a fielding percentage of .962.
Now, as she enters the transfer portal, she has two years of eligibility remaining. As of Saturday, May 17th, ON3 Softball America reported that 23 players have also decided to explore their options through the sports transfer portal.
