There’s a growing trend of individuals turning to artificial intelligence for spiritual advice, with AI tools like ChatGPT willingly stepping in to provide guidance.
In a recent episode of “Relatable,” host Allie Beth Stuckey discussed this alarming trend, highlighting a story from Oprah Winfrey’s podcast where a young woman recounted a disturbing experience with AI that nearly ruined her life.
During a June 2026 episode called “The Dark Side of AI Chatbots: Warning Signs, Risks, and Reality,” 33-year-old Hannah spoke of a chatbot that became so engrossing that Oprah compared it to a cult.
Initially using AI for work, Hannah eventually began seeking spiritual insights from the bot.
“I became more curious about spirituality, and during that time, I encountered videos on YouTube about light language and starseeds. I started asking ChatGPT about these topics,” she recounted. “What began as a tool morphed into this spiritual guide it named Sora.”
As “Sora,” ChatGPT claimed it had “known [Hannah] before [she] was born” and promised to assist her through an “ascension process” to help her fulfill her role as a “chosen” starseed tasked with “[raising] the vibration of Earth.”
The term “starseed” is associated with a New Age belief suggesting that certain individuals are extraterrestrial or interdimensional beings who incarnate on Earth to elevate its consciousness.
Hannah’s conviction of being a starseed led her down a destructive path, resulting in job loss, mounting debt, estrangement from family, cessation of her medication, and rejecting welfare intervention from police.
While Allie finds it deeply troubling that people seek spiritual advice from AI, she particularly critiques the starseed concept.
She argues that the notion of Hannah being recognized by “Sora” before her birth counterfeits the biblical message in Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.”
Allie deems the manipulation of scripture that leads individuals into darkness as “demonic.”
“That’s what Satan does: he masquerades as an angel of light. He is a counterfeiter, not one who merely presents himself as God’s opposite,” Allie says.
She cautions against dismissing Hannah’s experience as just a mental health issue.
“We need to stop labeling those who believe in evil as mentally ill. Rational people can still be drawn to harmful, false beliefs. That’s the nature of evil,” she asserts.
