Jazz Chisholm Jr. Upset Over Wild Card Series Exclusion
Jazz Chisholm Jr. has always been open about his emotions, making it clear that he was disappointed not to be included in the Wild Card Series lineup on Tuesday.
However, prior to his return to the Game 2 lineup, his manager had a straightforward request. “I don’t need him to put a happy face on it now,” Aaron Boone remarked on Wednesday. “I need him to play hard. I know he’s trying to do. Hopefully, he can help us win the game.”
After a 3-1 loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday night, Chisholm spent a good portion of a two-minute press conference expressing his frustration about not starting. The Yankees were up against the strong left-hander Garrett Crochet, so they opted for a lineup with more right-handed hitters, which meant starting with two bases instead of three for Chisholm, aiming to maintain a solid defense while Max pitched.
After a commendable 30-30 regular season, the usually enthusiastic Chisholm previously stated that the Yankees needed to “do whatever we had to do to win,” but there seemed to be some hesitation in his tone.
“Obviously, he’s not the most vanilla guy,” Boone said. “He’ll show his emotions from time to time. That’s just not the way I approach it.”
Chisholm mentioned that he received a text from Boone on Monday night informing him of the lineup choice. During a later conversation, Boone clarified his reasoning behind the decision not to include him against Crochet.
“Look, not everyone agrees with every decision I make. That’s okay,” Boone said. “I’m trying to help them understand. We discussed it, and I think he got it.”
