Tampa – Strikeout looks like it's going to be a good thing for Joey Gallo.
The former Yankees outfielder announced on social media on Sunday that he will be shooting shots after his career as a result of three truths.
Gallo was camping with the White Sox on a minor league contract this spring, but requested his release, Post's John Heyman reported.
“He's a pretty talented guy, so something strange happened,” manager Aaron Boone told Steinbrenner Field on Sunday. “It's obviously really good outfielder skills. Interesting.”
Boone asked if Gallo has become a two-way player, but the 31-year-old wrote on social media that he said, “It was an interesting outfield. …To be clear, I'll pitch.”
“It's fine,” Boone said. “Good luck, Joey.”
Gallo's unfortunate Yankees tenure lasted 140 games between 2021 and 2022, ending with the club trading him for the Dodgers.
With the appearance of 501 plates as a Yankee, he hit just .159 with .660 OPS, 25 home runs, 77 walks and 194 strikeouts.
Mark Reiter Jr. threw a “30-something” pitch in Sunday's bullpen session, instead of facing batters in live batting practice, after being hurt from a scheduled relief from a relief scheduled for Thursday due to a back cramp while warming.
However, the writer said he was sure he was ready to start the season on time.
“My Velo was normal, Game Velo,” the writer said of his bullpen session. “It didn't make sense to face live BP, which is very close to the season. It felt good. It really didn't make any sense, I didn't think about it. But physically I felt good. If I saw the numbers in things, it would have been as good as the game.”
Boone said the writers are scheduled to pitch in the game on Wednesday.
“If it was the regular season, it would have been fine,” the writer said. “But there's really no reason to push for something small. I feel good about everything camping.”

Trent Grisham and Dominique Smith both run clubbed home runs on Sunday, marking the third in the spring with both left-handed batters. … Opening his eyes this spring as the next layer of pitching depth in the minor leagues, Cam Schlittler threw 4²/₃ innings against the Pirates (one won).
