Glenn Aims to Transform Jets’ Legacy

PHOENIX — Aaron Glenn, who took on the Jets coaching role last year, expressed feelings of “unfinished business” from his playing days. He’s focused on developing a team that can consistently compete for a Super Bowl title.

Now in his second year as head coach, Glenn is immersed in the daily grind. But is he always thinking about the overarching goal? Well, yes.

“Day in and day out,” he mentioned during the NFL meetings on Tuesday. “I have a few core things on my mind every day. First off, our players—how can we make the most of each player on the roster to ensure our success? What steps do I need to take to help us overcome obstacles?” The frustration of years of underperformance lingers, yet he feels they’ve finally crossed a threshold. Now, his focus is on sustaining that success.

Having been a first-round draft pick by the Jets in 1994, Glenn hopes he will be remembered for reshaping the franchise.

“I want to leave a legacy, and I will,” he declared. “I envision this team consistently putting itself in a winning position. Not a single day goes by—nor an hour or minute—where I don’t think about that. I’m eager to put in the work to make it happen.”

Last season, Glenn supported quarterback Justin Fields before the team eventually traded him to the Chiefs after a challenging season.

“It just didn’t pan out,” Glenn reflected. “I can’t say I have regrets, though. I think Justin has the potential to excel. Ultimately, the responsibility falls on me. I could have done more to support his success. I believe he will thrive in Kansas City.”

Looking ahead, when asked about standout players for the upcoming season, Glenn highlighted second-year tight end Mason Taylor.

“I’m genuinely excited to see what Mason brings to the table this year,” Glenn remarked. “I’m convinced he’s going to impress. We’ll see him take significant strides forward. I really look forward to that.”

Glenn shared that he had an encouraging conversation with Taylor towards the end of his rookie year. The player recognized the areas where he needed to grow.
