Aaron Glenn hopeful about Garrett Wilson's return against the Browns

The Jets might see their primary offensive player back on the field this Sunday when they face the Browns at MetLife Stadium.

Garrett Wilson, the receiver who has been sidelined for the last two games due to a hyperextended knee from a narrow 13-11 defeat against the Broncos in London, is set to return to practice on Wednesday.

This is certainly welcome news for the Jets, especially considering Wilson is their leading receiver with 36 catches, 395 yards, and four touchdowns. It’s worth noting he hasn’t stepped onto the practice field since his injury.

During a media session on Monday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn addressed reporters for the first time since the bye week. However, he was cautious about saying whether Wilson would play on Sunday, despite a sense of optimism surrounding his return.

“He’s scheduled to practice this week, so he’s eager to get out there,” Glenn mentioned. “Let’s see how things go over the week. I don’t want to count on too much right now, but honestly, I’m excited to see him back on the practice field.”

Teammates are also looking forward to Wilson’s return.

“We missed him for sure, but other guys stepped up, like Tyler Johnson last week,” remarked Jets guard Joe Tippman on Monday. “But getting him back… he’s a key player for our offense, so it’s going to be really important.”

Jets tight end Jeremy Ruckert echoed this sentiment, highlighting that Wilson’s presence would be “huge.”

“He’s incredibly talented, but it’s more than just that,” Ruckert added. “His energy in the locker room and huddle is just fantastic. Having someone like him back will be a game changer.”

Ruckert also expressed confidence in Wilson’s ability to reintegrate quickly saying, “When he comes back, I don’t think it’ll take long for him to get back to form. We’re just thrilled to have him back whenever that is.”

On a less positive note, safety Andre Cisco is not expected to make a return. Glenn confirmed on Monday that Cisco will miss the remainder of the season after reinjuring his shoulder against the Bengals.

“Andre will be out for the season,” Glenn stated. “He had shoulder issues. There are additional concerns, but while treating the shoulder, he’ll likely address those too.”

In other injury updates, Wilson is expected to be joined on the practice field this Wednesday by tight ends Mason Taylor and Stone Smart, quarterback Tyrod Taylor, and running back Breece Hall.

Glenn also mentioned that cornerback Sauce Gardner, kick returner Kene Nwanwu, and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa are nearing the conclusion of their concussion protocols, implying a positive outlook on their return to practice.

Furthermore, Glenn indicated that newly acquired receiver John Metchie III, who was traded from the Eagles last week, could potentially play this Sunday. However, he didn’t want to make any guarantees just yet.

“Guys, we just brought him in,” Glenn said. “Health-wise, I think he’ll be okay. Let’s not jump the gun on a player who just got here. We’ll see how he does this week.”
