Aaron Jones placed on IR in recent setback for the Vikings

Injury Update for the Vikings

The Vikings faced another setback on Tuesday with a significant injury.

Minnesota’s Aaron Jones, 30, is out for at least four weeks following a hamstring injury sustained during the game against the Falcons, which concluded with a score of 22-6 on Sunday night, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This week, head coach Kevin O’Connell mentioned that Jones was “probably down” for the upcoming game before the decision to place him on injured reserve was made.

In Jones’ absence, Jordan Mason is anticipated to step up as the starting running back for Minnesota. Additionally, the team is reportedly looking to sign Cam Akers, who has spent the last couple of seasons on the practice squad, especially since the depth chart took another hit with Ty Chandler also dealing with a hamstring issue.

The injury woes don’t stop there. The Vikings have ruled out quarterback JJ McCarthy for two to four weeks due to a high ankle sprain, complicating matters further.

In McCarthy’s absence, Carson Wentz is expected to take over the starting role. The team also plans to bring in veteran Desmond Ridder as a backup. O’Connell acknowledged, “It’s true, we’re dealing with some adversity right now.”

Jones managed only five carries for 23 yards before his injury during the game on Sunday. The Vikings have a challenging matchup ahead against the Bengals, who are also dealing with their own injury crisis, particularly to star quarterback Joe Burrow, who is expected to miss at least three months due to a recent injury.

Interestingly, last season, Jones had one of his best years with a total of 1,138 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, showing just how impactful he has been for the team.
