Judge Ties Yogi Berra’s Home Run Record

Chicago – It wasn’t finalized until the end, but Judge Aaron has now tied Yogi Berra.

The judge matched Bella’s fifth position on the Yankees’ home run list, although the team lost to the White Sox, 3-2. This marks Judge’s 358th career home run, achieved on Sunday afternoon.

“It’s pretty special to be able to tie one of the greatest Yankees—if not the greatest,” the judge said, noting he has hit 43 home runs this season. “Yogi’s impact on the game and what he represented as a Yankee resonates with me. I feel honored to wear this jersey.”

Next in line for Judge is Joe DiMaggio at 361 home runs. However, reaching legends like Lou Gehrig (493), Mickey Mantle (536), and Babe Ruth (659) will likely take more seasons.

“He belongs in that company,” said manager Aaron Boone. “He’s definitely on a path toward joining those rare names in baseball history.”

Boone added, “He’s one of the best players we’ve seen in our generation.”

This was Judge’s second straight game and third in his last five times hitting home runs, which is promising, especially since he hasn’t hit a consistent groove since returning from an elbow issue.

Prior to Sunday, Judge was batting .218, though he had an .856 OPS over the first 23 games of this stretch.

He missed passing Bella with his second home run during Sunday’s game, settling instead for a double after nearly reaching the center field wall.

“I haven’t been on base enough for my teammates recently,” Judge said as he continues to serve as a designated hitter while working towards returning to right field in September. “We’re trying to improve on that, so any contributions I can make to Beli’s game are a good thing.”

The Yankees are counting on their six home runs in August to represent their best month this season, especially as they aim for a strong September to set themselves up for the playoffs.

“We’ll get there; he’s going to figure it out,” Boone mentioned. “At some point, he’s going to heat up. He had some solid at-bats today, and we’re looking forward to seeing him keep it going.”
