Aaron Judge rips liner off Chris Bassitt, who stays in game with welt

Chris Bassitt received a welcoming gift from Aaron Judge.

Or, more specifically, the second right elbow.

The Yankees-Blue Jays game started strong on Saturday in Game 3 of a four-game series in Toronto, when Judge launched a 101.6 mph liner at Bassitt on a 2-0 count.

As the right-handed hitter ran safely to first base, the ball bounced off his arm and toward first baseman Justin Turner, eliciting a roar from the Rogers Centre crowd.

Replays of the liner showed the ball hitting Bassitt hard, and he immediately noticed swelling in his right elbow.

But he continued to play in the match.

Other than some swelling on Bassitt’s elbow, the incident did not cause any damage to the Blue Jays during the inning.

After Judge, Alex Verdugo struck out and the inning ended when Ben Rice was caught stealing third base by catcher Alejandro Kirk during Gleyber Torres’ at-bat.

The Blue Jays led 3-1 going into the sixth inning.

The Yankees (53-31) will be looking for a win to snap a slump in June that included two straight losses to the Mets in the Subway Series.
