The Yankees have been hearing it from pundits, fans and just about anyone in a position of power as they struggled through June and July.
Now they can add the man who helped transform Aaron Judge’s swing to that group of critics.
Striking master Richard Schenck, aka translator He took to the social media platform to comment on X after the Yankees’ 8-4 loss to the Reds on Thursday, ending a three-game winning streak in the Bronx.
Schenck is Teacher Man Hitting The man who helped propel Judge to superstardom before he was named AL Rookie of the Year in 2017, praised Judge but also criticized the Yankees’ improving offense.
“He’s hitting like an MVP and the Yankees have lost 13 of 18 games. The Yankees’ offensive player development is awful,” Schenck said. I replied to X’s YES Network post It shows just how well the Bronx Bombers play when Judge is hitting well.
This comes about a year after former Yankees prospect Ben Ruta criticized the team for how it treats minor leaguers and develops them, saying, “They’re trying to get a lot of the same players and make them all the same.”
judge, I personally gave a shout-out to Schenck. He made his debut before the 2018 season and played at an MVP level this year, hitting 32 home runs and recording an OPS of 1.135.
Despite a slow start to the year, Judge has been one of the team’s most in-form hitters. of He has been the best player in baseball over the past two-plus months, having posted an OPS of over 1.300 in both May and June.
Despite his and Juan Soto’s spectacular performances, the Yankees’ offense has struggled over the past month, and of all Yankees players who have not been on the disabled list and have played in at least 29 games this year, only one, Alex Verdugo, has a season OPS above .700.
Anthony Volpe has been at the forefront of the decline, batting just .220 in June and just one hit in 14 at-bats since the start of July, losing his spot as leadoff hitter in the lineup.
Whether Giancarlo Stanton can return from a hamstring injury he suffered in late June and provide the Yankees with a spark — expected to miss at least four weeks — the Yankees will need to get more out of their offensive line outside of Judge and Soto.
