Yankees Triumph Over Rangers in Nail-Biter
Baseball isn’t quite the same as having Jacob DeGrom on the mound and Aaron Judge at bat.
On Wednesday night, Judge, often hailed as a batting superstar, faced DeGrom, widely recognized as one of the best pitchers of our time. The game ended with the Yankees beating the Rangers 4-3 in a dramatic finish.
“I really enjoy nights like this, taking on the best,” Judge stated after going 1-for-1 against the Rangers’ bullpen, following a walk from DeGrom.
In the early innings, the matchup between Judge and DeGrom was highly anticipated. The pitcher altered his speed and pitch variety, reminiscent of his prime days, showing flashes of dominance.
DeGrom had Judge in a pinch, going up 1-2, but he couldn’t finish him off.
He even reached a blazing 99.3 mph with his fastball, the fastest pitch of the night.
On the ninth pitch, Judge connected with a fastball, sending it into shallow right field. Marcus Semien attempted to make the catch but couldn’t, thanks to the wind. The two players exchanged a brief moment—Judge smiled and nodded while DeGrom feigned disgust.
“It was a nod of mutual respect, like saying, ‘Next time, let’s see what happens,’” Judge explained.
Cody Bellinger continued his impressive streak, going 2-for-4 with a home run and stretching his hitting streak to 15 games.
Back at Yankee Stadium, former pitcher Al Leiter shared the spotlight, as both his son Jack plays for the Rangers and his nephew Mark Reiter Jr. is in the Yankees’ bullpen.
Leiter expressed his pride, saying, “You dream about these things; it’s amazing that my son and nephew are both in the big leagues at the same time.”
