Aaron Rodgers addresses his Jets future as season spirals

Aaron Rodgers still wants to go back to 2025.

The Jets quarterback said Wednesday that despite struggling this season, going 3-7, he still wants to play next season.

Asked if he would like to play in 2025, Rodgers said, “I think so.”

Rodgers, who will turn 41 in December, has had the worst season of his career. The Jets had dreams of making the Super Bowl, but now their chances of making the playoffs are slim.

Rodgers was asked if the course of this season has changed his outlook on playing next year.

“Not really. It's not a negative thing, no,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers admitted he hasn't played well this season.

“I certainly haven't played as well as I would have liked,” he said. “The great thing about this game is that it's a team game. What's frustrating is that I hold myself to a standard of being a great competitor, which is not unrealistic, and I haven't been up to that standard this year. That’s it.”

The Jets traded Rodgers in April 2023. He missed all but four plays of his first season due to a torn Achilles tendon. He returned this year, but things didn't work out.

Still, Rodgers said the past two years have been fun.

“It's actually been a really great couple of years for me overall, but obviously the football part was frustrating,” he said.

If the Jets were to part ways with Rodgers in 2025, they would have $49 million in dead money against the salary cap.
