Aaron Rodgers Eyes Retirement with the Steelers

Aaron Rodgers, now 41, has expressed confidence that he will retire with the Pittsburgh Steelers following this season. After signing a one-year contract with them in early June, he seemed fairly certain about his plans.

He noted, “I’m pretty sure about this decision with just the one-year deal. The Steelers didn’t need to commit to more years.” This reflection came from his appearance on the “Pat McCuffy Show.”

Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, mentioned how he is enjoying this opportunity, particularly appreciating the chance to be part of a historic team like the Steelers. “I’ve been playing for 20 years. It’s a long run, and I’m truly enjoying it, especially being able to work with a fantastic coach like Mike Tomlin,” he said.

Despite a somewhat lackluster two-year tenure with the New York Jets, Rodgers felt a strong pull to return. “It’s not about going out on a low note. It’s about my love for the game. Quarterbacking has always been my dream, and I want to win that Super Bowl,” he explained.

His weekly conversations with Tomlin during free agency were pivotal for him. “Those discussions meant a lot to me,” Rodgers admitted, clarifying that he didn’t feel any external pressure to come back. “I don’t need to prove anything to anyone,” he added. “Attention isn’t my goal.”

Interestingly, he indicated a desire to retreat from the public eye upon retirement. “Once this is over, I won’t be around much. I just want to live my life privately,” he stated.

As for his plans for the final season, he’s ready to give it his all. “I’m going to empty the tank for the Steelers. I’m really comfortable with whatever happens next,” he noted with a hint of enthusiasm. “It’s thrilling to be back in Pittsburgh, to understand the organization, and to be part of such a storied franchise.”

Rodgers’ performance last season with the Jets included 3,987 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions over 17 games. The Steelers, who had a mixed season with quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, are hopeful that Rodgers can help lead them back to playoff contention and potentially a Super Bowl victory.
