Aaron Rodgers Signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers
Aaron Rodgers has officially signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, which he finalized last week.
The Steelers’ upcoming schedule poses a tough challenge. Rodgers is set to face his former team, the New York Jets, in the first week, followed by a home game against the Seattle Seahawks in the second week. Additionally, the Steelers will take on Drake May and the New England Patriots, making it a packed start.
The Steelers will enter the 2025 season against opponents who had a 52.6% win rate the previous year. This has prompted former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum to make an audacious prediction regarding Rodgers.
“I tend to make bold predictions,” he stated during a segment on ESPN’s “Get Up.” He suggested that Rodgers might not even be relevant come Thanksgiving, implying that the veteran quarterback, who is now 42, will fade into the background as his team struggles.
This controversial view caught many off guard, leading to questions about his reasoning. Tannenbaum noted that the Steelers might be the third-best team in their division and should start paying attention to rookie Will Howard from Ohio.
The situation surrounding the Steelers’ quarterback position post-Ben Roethlisberger draws parallels to what the Indianapolis Colts faced after Andrew Luck’s retirement in 2019. Since Roethlisberger stepped down after the 2021 season, the Steelers have cycled through several quarterbacks, including Kenny Pickett, Mitchell Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, Justin Fields, and Russell Wilson—while head coach Mike Tomlin has navigated this transition.
Interestingly, despite not advancing past the wildcard round, the Steelers have only missed the postseason once since 2020, demonstrating that while offensive strategies may fluctuate, reliable defense still shines through.
While some might agree with Tannenbaum’s perspective on Rodgers, it doesn’t necessarily mean we should count the Steelers out for the upcoming season.
