Aaron Rodgers expressed a desire to play one last game at Lambeau Field.
“When I found out that we would play both of my former teams, I really hoped this particular game would be in Green Bay. I could revisit Lambeau and maybe enjoy dinner at Chives, or squeeze in a quick round at the Green Bay Country Club,” Rodgers shared. “There were numerous reasons for wanting this game to be in Green Bay.”
He went on to express that reuniting with old friends in Green Bay added to his disappointment about not returning. “It would have felt strange being there as a visitor. I would’ve figured out how to get around, like many former players do, to connect with the players, trainers, and important staff still working there. I feel let down that I can’t attend this game at Lambeau,” he said.
Rodgers is embarking on what he claims is his last season in the NFL after a 22-year career.
At 42, the quarterback spent 18 of those years with the Packers, clinching the Super Bowl title in 2011.
This year, he has reconnected with Mike McCarthy, his former coach with Green Bay, who has taken over as head coach of the Steelers, replacing Mike Tomlin.
Rodgers and McCarthy were together for 13 seasons before McCarthy’s departure in 2018.
On Thursday, the Steelers will host the Packers for the first preseason matchup of both teams.
