Aaron Rodgers guides the Pittsburgh Steelers to a comeback victory against the Jets

Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields Shine in Season Opener

The much-anticipated season debut of four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers took place on Sunday afternoon. Playing at MetLife Stadium, Rodgers completed 22 passes for 244 yards and impressively threw four touchdown passes.

But he wasn’t the only quarterback drawing attention. Former Steelers quarterback Justin Fields took the reins as the Jets’ starting quarterback and had a solid debut, finishing 22 of 16 for 218 yards. He also showcased his athleticism by rushing for two touchdowns.

Things got interesting when Fields faced a crucial fourth down with just 25 seconds remaining. Attempting to make a play, he initially moved into the pocket but then opted to throw to Garrett Wilson, who caught seven passes for 95 yards, including a touchdown. A promising connection, considering Wilson and Fields played together at Ohio State.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing, though. Jalen Ramsey made a pivotal play by knocking the ball loose from Wilson, effectively sealing a victory for the opposing team. Meanwhile, Rodgers led the Steelers with an effective opening drive, culminating in a touchdown from a 22-yard pass to Ben Skouronek that put them ahead 7-3.

Fields responded by connecting with Wilson for a 33-yard touchdown, highlighting their established rapport. However, Rodgers seemed equally in sync with his new weapon, DK Metcalf, who joined the Steelers from the Seahawks. Metcalf contributed with four catches for 83 yards, but notably, didn’t score any of the four touchdown passes. Instead, those went to Calvin Austin III, Jalen Warren, and tight end Jonus Miss.

Despite the loss, Jets fans likely felt encouraged by the ground game, as their running back showcased impressive footwork, racking up 107 yards on 19 carries along with two receptions for 38 yards. There’s definitely a sense that the season has just begun, and there’s much more to come.
