ORCHARD PARK — It appears the end is near for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.
Not just for this surprisingly disappointing season, but perhaps forever.
In Sunday's 40-14 loss to the Bills at Highmark Stadium, Rodgers was shutout in the third quarter before being replaced by backup Tyrod Taylor, but the 41-year-old Hall of Famer It was the lowest point of the season for him. Bound Quarterback.
Rodgers completed just 12 of 18 passes for 112 yards and threw two interceptions in the loss.
He was sacked four times, including by a safety, for a loss of 26 yards.
The 112 yards were Rodgers' lowest total since 2019, when he was held to 104 yards in a 38-7 loss to the 49ers.
“It feels like the season has gone by,” Rodgers said. “Too many games have gotten away from us. This game has gotten away from us. We were moving the ball well and then we hit a wall. And that's the season.”
The Jets moved the ball well early in the game but couldn't get anything going.
“The two times we played, [the Bills] We moved the ball well this year, but we just hurt ourselves,” Rodgers said. “We scored more points in the first game (20 points). But if you look at the first game, we had a lot of chances to win the game. Today on the first two drives moved the ball well [and got] We didn't score and the game slipped away from us after the half. ”
Rodgers, who has lost only one shutout in his career, was replaced by Taylor early in the fourth quarter. Taylor completed 11 of 14 passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
“As a competitor, to go out and compete, that's what you want to do,” Taylor said. “Obviously you never want to be [playing] At the cost of injuries and explosions. But obviously, when your number is called, you have to go out and perform. I'm glad I was able to go out there and capture some of my plays on film. ”
As for Rodgers, receiver Davante Adams, a close friend of the team, said, “For Aaron, a lot of this season has been plagued by injuries. I haven't been able to get it out.
“It's a shame. Judging by the way the season has gone, I think he's a rival, but it's hard to imagine him being otherwise.” [playing]. But that's not what I tell him. We need to get people thinking about these situations.
“I'm thinking about what my future is going to be, but I've only been around for 20 years. You can't blame the guy if he walks away. He's put a lot of effort into this game. He was one of the best quarterbacks to ever play in this game. Nothing that happens from this moment can take that away from him.
“He's 41 years old and he's playing at a level that you would expect to play this game, which is not easy. I'm proud of him and I tell him that every time we're together. ”
When asked about his future, Rodgers said: “I'm going to enjoy this next week and then rest mentally and physically.”
