Aaron Rodgers Hints at Potential Return for 22nd NFL Season
Aaron Rodgers, who has felt the weight of approaching retirement, appears to have had a change of heart as he gears up for a crucial matchup against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18. After expressing earlier this offseason that he might hang up his cleats, the four-time MVP seems to be reconsidering his future.
When speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Rodgers didn’t shut down the idea of returning for another season. “I’m focusing on this week, but, you know, I’m 42 and I’m on a one-year deal,” he mentioned, as noted by ESPN.
He also acknowledged, “Once the season wraps up, I’ll be a free agent. So if I still want to play, I’ll have options… well, maybe not a ton, but definitely a few.” This reflection seems to contrast with his earlier statements about the upcoming season possibly being his last.
Back in June, he shared that playing for over 20 years has been a fulfilling journey, emphasizing how meaningful it would be to wrap things up with a storied franchise like the Steelers. “There’s no better place to finish than with one of the cornerstone franchises in the NFL,” he had said during an appearance on a popular show.
As of now, Rodgers has thrown for 3,028 yards, logging 23 touchdowns and seven interceptions. There’s still a chance for the Steelers to make the playoffs, depending on the outcome against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens this Sunday.
“I’m just hoping to push through this stretch and, you know, feel like myself again,” he added, acknowledging the pressure and expectations surrounding the upcoming game. A win against Baltimore is crucial for securing the AFC North title and a playoff position.
The Steelers are set to host the Ravens on Sunday night at 8:20 p.m. ET.
