Despite not even playing for the New York Jets yet and already asking for a trade, Haason Reddick’s teammates are supporting him.
The edge rusher requested a trade from the Jets on Monday, just months after being acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, after the two sides were unable to agree on a new contract during the offseason.
With Redick’s Week 1 eligibility officially in question and Gang Green general Joe Douglas making a fiery statement that the team won’t trade him, there’s not much of a win for either side.

Redick turns 30 on Sept. 22, not exactly the golden age to sign a new contract, but quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he can’t blame Redick for fighting for what he wants.
“Obviously, I would love for him to be here, but I don’t blame him for trying to do what’s best for him,” he said. He told reporters at training camp on tuesday.
But Rodgers passed on his thoughts to teammates about what Redick should do.
“I think the best thing for him would be to be with the Jets because it would be a fun ride.”

The Jets sent a conditional 2026 third-round draft pick to the Eagles in exchange for Redick. Philadelphia’s compensation could be a second-round pick if Redick hits certain playing-time thresholds and records at least 10 sacks.
The Jets acquired Redick after trading edge rusher Bryce Huff in free agency, ironically to the Birds. Redick finishes the 2023 season with 11 sacks in 17 games, while Huff recorded a team-leading 10 sacks last year with New York.

The expectation was that the two sides would eventually find some sort of solution when Redick arrived at the Tri-State Area, but with less than four weeks until the start of the season, it appears nothing has progressed.
