Aaron Rodgers shares personal reason delaying his NFL decision

Aaron Rodgers Hints at Free Agency Delays

Aaron Rodgers recently shared thoughts that might shed some light on why he’s taking his time with free agency.

During a discussion on the “Joe Rogan Podcast,” he mentioned someone close to him who is battling cancer. “I was holding these people and weeds near me who had cancer,” he noted. This comment follows earlier remarks from Rodgers, where he expressed that some folks in his circle were facing “the hard thing,” which has influenced his decision-making regarding his football future on the “Pat McCuffy Show.”

Rodgers elaborated, saying, “I’m trying to be open to everything, but nothing is attached to anything in particular about this decision.” He emphasized that he’s been through quite a lot personally, and feels the need to hold back on making a definitive call.

There’s widespread speculation that he’s among the top quarterback targets for the Steelers this offseason. The team has reportedly welcomed him to their facility and has kept in touch for some time.

Even though the NFL Draft occurred last month and training camp is set to start in July, Rodgers mentioned he felt “not tied to anyone.”

Steelers president Art Rooney II seems prepared to give Rodgers a bit more time to weigh his options, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

The Steelers have recently signed veteran Mason Rudolph and drafted a quarterback, seemingly leaving the door open for Rodgers. Last season, he led the Jets to a less-than-stellar 5-12 record, throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions over 17 games.

If Rodgers does decide to join the Steelers, it would be interesting to see how he handles a match-up against his former team at MetLife Stadium in week one.
