Aaron Rodgers takes a page from Simon Cowell with Steelers receiver tests

Aaron Rodgers, known for his meticulous preparation throughout his likely Hall of Fame career, has a reputation for developing strong chemistry with his receivers.

The latest player to experience this approach is rookie Germie Bernard from the Steelers.

Just before Bernard’s first start against the Colts, he was peppered with questions by the seasoned quarterback about the workings of both teams.

After responding to all of Rodgers’ inquiries, as noted by ESPN, Bernard received praise from the 42-year-old quarterback.

“What I’ve learned from Aaron is that he does this to ensure we’re fully prepared,” Bernard shared with ESPN. “He wants us to know what we’re doing when we step onto the field with him.”

Rodgers has a history of quizzing teammates, a tradition that started back in 2009 when he became the starter for the Packers. Jordan Love, who has now taken over Rodgers’ position in Green Bay, has kept this custom alive.

“It’s a real eye-opener to gauge who’s familiar with the game plan and who knows the opponent and their players,” Rodgers said recently. “I think it’s essential to keep the guys alert, to encourage them to study, watch film, and understand our strategy. The quizzes are going to be a regular thing, and hopefully, they keep improving.”

Rodgers’ penchant for rigorous questioning seems to echo the personality of Simon Cowell, as noted by tight end Robert Tonyan, who experienced this grilling firsthand when both were in Green Bay.

“I remember being young and a bit nervous up there, and now it’s fun to sit next to him and ask questions,” Tonyan remarked. “We joked about it; he’s like Simon Cowell, and I’m Randy Jackson.”

For the Steelers, facing the Buccaneers this Sunday will be challenging, especially with a receiving lineup missing Roman Wilson and Skowronek, and with DK Metcalf still uncertain to play.

In what Rodgers claims will be his final NFL season, he has accumulated 1,234 passing yards with 10 touchdowns and four interceptions across five games.
