Aaron Rodgers will decide on retirement soon as the Steelers wait

What’s Next for Aaron Rodgers?

The offseason saga surrounding Aaron Rodgers, dubbed “The Aaron Rodgers Decision,” is rumored to have its final act coming soon.

Rodgers is likely to announce his decision about playing another year or retiring by mid-March, according to league officials. ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned on his podcast that it seems quite probable that he may re-sign with the Steelers as a free agent.

This aligns with what Steelers general manager Omar Khan hinted at during Tuesday’s NFL Combine: “I don’t think either team wants this to drag out like it did last year.”

With Rodgers, things aren’t always set in stone.

After indicating a desire to retire from the Packers in 2023, Rodgers sparked interest by expressing a willingness to join the Jets. He didn’t officially sign with the Steelers until June 2025, following a two-year stretch with the Jets. However, his late arrival left the quarterback situation in a bit of limbo while he attended voluntary OTAs, which didn’t sit well with everyone.

Many considered last season one of Rodgers’ better performances; he even led the Steelers into the playoffs. However, a significant factor in his potential move to Pittsburgh was coaching changes, as head coach Mike Tomlin resigned.

The Steelers then surprised everyone by hiring Mike McCarthy, under whom Rodgers won two MVPs and a Super Bowl in Green Bay. Though their relationship ended on a sour note, some suggest that time and maturity might have smoothed over those past issues.

So, is a reunion between the Steelers and Rodgers a possibility as they scout for a long-term quarterback, beyond 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard? Very much so.

However, there’s the complication of the Vikings seeking a competitive edge for J.J. McCarthy, who had a rather uninspiring first season as a starter. Interestingly, Rodgers had shown interest in playing for the Vikings last offseason, but the team was committed to signing McCarthy instead.

With the recent changes in management, will the Vikings reconsider their stance on Rodgers? Is it possible that this future Hall of Famer could be vying for a starting position? We may find out soon—perhaps.
