In Columbus, Ohio, three kittens are on their way to recovery after being found abandoned in freezing conditions at a state park last Friday.
A compassionate individual alerted the Fayette Area Humane Society after discovering two kittens at the foot of a tree. Interestingly, another kitten was spotted clinging to a branch high up—about 25 to 30 feet—that seemed too frightened to descend.
A team at Paint Creek State Park stepped in to rescue the kitten stuck in the tree before the Humane Society could arrive.
The good Samaritan took the other two kittens to the Ross County Humane Society, where staff provided warmth and safety until Fayette came to pick them up.
The trio, named Oakland, Briar, and Maple, were later reunited and taken to the humane society’s animal rescue and adoption center.
The kittens are currently receiving treatment for a mild respiratory infection but are projected to recover just fine. Now they’re warm, safe, and back together.
Tragically, two additional abandoned kittens were found frozen nearby, as reported by the humane organization.
“This rescue highlights the importance of compassion and quick action, while also showcasing the tragic outcomes of animal abandonment,” the organization noted on social media.
The three siblings were believed to have been intentionally left behind, given their friendly demeanor and the location where they were discovered.
It’s crucial to understand that pets also face unique challenges when it comes to staying warm and safe in cold weather.
If it’s too chilly for you, it’s likely too chilly for them, too.
At this time, it’s uncertain when or if the kittens will be adopted.
