Abbott says his focus is on Texas amid Trump VP consideration

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) was asked in an interview Tuesday about the possibility of running for former President Trump as his running mate, and he said he is focused on governing the state.

Asked in an interview on NBC if he would accept a hypothetical offer from Trump to be his running mate, Abbott said: “So listen, he’s very kind to suggest something like that. ” he said.

“One of the things I’m deeply committed to is governing the great state of Texas. I’ve already announced that I’m running for re-election, and that’s really my focus,” Abbott said. added.

Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner, has hinted in recent months about a possible vice presidential nomination, and last week confirmed Mr. Abbott was on his short list.

Asked by Fox News host Sean Hannity if he was considered a running mate, President Trump said in an interview alongside Abbott near the southern U.S. border on Thursday: “Absolutely. That’s right,” he said.

President Trump also said during a recent town hall event with Fox host Laura Ingraham that the list of candidates included Sen. Tim Scott (RS.C.), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, R-Fla. Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and U.S. Rep. Byron Donald (R) also confirmed that they were included.
