Greg Abbott Announces Run for Fourth Term as Texas Governor
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared his candidacy for a fourth term, aiming to safeguard Texas from what he describes as the “progressive insanity of the far left.” This announcement, made during a speech in Houston, reflects his commitment to the values and policies he has championed throughout his time in office.
“Texas is the heart of this land we call America. As Texans, we will protect this state with all our heart. We will protect what we built. We will finish what we started. We will lead Texas to a bright future. That’s why I’m here tonight to announce that I’m running for reelection as governor of the great state of Texas,” Abbott stated.
Reflecting on the accident that left him paralyzed, Abbott remarked, “I learned that our lives don’t have to be determined or defined by how we are challenged. We can define our lives by how we respond to those challenges. That is our trademark resiliency as Texans.”
In his speech, Abbott also pushed for property tax reform. He proposed allowing Texas voters to eliminate school property taxes through a direct vote, suggesting that any future tax increases should require a two-thirds approval from voters.
“It’s time to drive a stake permanently into the heart of local property tax increases,” he asserted. “We are going to turn the tables on local tax authorities, put power in the hands of the people, and end out-of-control property taxes in Texas.”
“What we have in Texas is precious, but one bad election can destroy it all. Make no mistake about it. Democrats want that election to be this election,” he added. “We are Texans. In 2026, we will remind the entire world that the spirit of Texas will never be broken. We will win this election. We will protect this great state. We will leave our children and grandchildren a Texas that is safer, stronger, freer, and more prosperous than ever before.”
Since taking office in 2014, Abbott has prioritized lowering property taxes, increasing funding for public schools, enhancing border security, boosting the economy, and defending the rights of unborn children. However, he faces challengers for the Democratic nomination, including State Rep. Gina Hinojosa, rancher Bobby Cole, and businessman Andrew White.
Hinojosa criticized Abbott’s tenure, saying, “Even though Abbott secured a record $8.5 billion in new funding for Texas public schools in June, our costs are rising, health care remains expensive and unaffordable, and public schools are being defunded.”
She further stated, “He does not deserve an unprecedented fourth term. Texans deserve a new governor, someone who is dedicated to hard-working Texan families, not wealthy donors.”
Abbott’s campaign continues to emphasize economic growth, protection of religious freedoms, border security, and defending Second Amendment rights.
