Abby Phillip Declines to Provide On-Air Correction of Mamdani Falsehood

Misleading Narrative Surrounding New York City Mayor

This week, CNN’s Abby Phillippe made a claim that Mayor Zoran Mamdani was the target of a terrorist attack in New York City over the weekend. It was an assertion not backed by facts.

“Next,” she added, “two Republicans are claiming that Muslims don’t belong here following the attempted attack on Mayor Mamdani.”

Later in the broadcast, Ana Navarro echoed the same misleading narrative. “What’s ironic,” she stated, “is that some of these comments stem from an attempt on Mayor Mamdani, who was raised Muslim himself. So, they’re being anti-Muslim while supposedly defending him.”

However, authorities clarified that Mamdani was not the target of an ISIS-inspired attack. The real target was a group of peaceful protesters opposing the Islamization of New York. Police reported that two individuals hurled homemade bombs at these protesters, but thankfully, the bombs did not detonate.

Interestingly, a day later, Phillippe had yet to correct her statement. During Wednesday’s show, she seemed to acknowledge a mistake, saying, “I mistakenly said that the bomb thrown by an ISIS-inspired suspect in New York was aimed at Mayor Mamdani. It wasn’t.” Yet, she still did not clarify who the actual target was.

The end of her statement included another misleading remark: “It’s important to admit mistakes when they happen and correct them.” However, she did not rectify the misinformation.

Where is this correction, Abby?

No transparency was offered about the true nature of the incident—namely, the group of peaceful protesters that were attacked. To not correct this seems intentional.

It’s perplexing, as many have suggested, “What’s going on at CNN?” The answer is simple—what’s been happening for over a decade: a pattern of deceptive reporting.

Some people on the political right are making claims about CNN having editorial problems or being disorganized. But at CNN, dishonesty isn’t a random occurrence; it’s part of the business model. Deception has become a routine practice.

After all these years, how can anything they say be taken at face value? There’s a persistent issue of dishonesty within their reporting.

CNN has allied itself with a narrative that warps the truth.

Many now see CNN as a source of misinformation.
