ABC is preparing to expand its far-left daytime talk show The View By adding a weekend edition of the show. weekend view The show will run on the network's ABC News live streaming service and will include the same panels as the weekday show, minus Whoopi Goldberg, according to . variety.
The show will debut on January 11th at 7:30 a.m. ET with a 30-minute running time.
The new show is led by Joy Behar and also stars Sunny Hostin, Sarah Haines, Alyssa Farrah Griffin, and Ana Navarro. It will be taped on Friday afternoon after the team finishes its weekday broadcast.
Karyn Guilford, ABC's senior vice president of digital media, said the new show will not focus on left-wing politics as much as the regular weekday series, but will instead be a “lifestyle” show.
“Saturdays and Sundays are a little bit lighter. They still cover all the stories from the week, but in a slightly different tone. So it's the same program format. We also cover hot topics, but The weekend will be a little more pop culture oriented,” Guilford said.
Guilford added: “Weekends are also generally when everyone has a day off.” “So this is an opportunity for us to highlight some of the things that the show covers throughout the week, which might not necessarily be the case in the political arena.”
“This is an opportunity for us to expand the conversation and give our viewers more of what they love about the connection they feel to the show,” Guilford continued. “We really believe that weekend viewin addition to what we've done with podcasting, we've always had a great short-form format and social presence on the show, but this is kind of the next frontier. ”
Weekend shows will be available on Disney+, Hulu, YouTube, ABCNews.com, ABC News and the ABC News Live app.
Last year, the regular weekday program was repeatedly embarrassed by the host having to read out apologies on air for outrageous false statements made by panel members in previous episodes.
One of the latest disclaimers was read to the audience by co-host Sunny Hostin over factual errors regarding accusations about President-elect Donald Trump's Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth.
In fact, on one show in November, the hosts were forced to read at least four legal disclaimers that contradicted everything some of the panel members said.
In another embarrassing moment, panel host Whoopi Goldberg came under fire for suggesting that a New York baker had refused her order because she was a leftist. However, the bakery disputed that claim, presented evidence to prove their case, and demanded that Mr. Goldberg withdraw the discrimination charge.
