Abdul Carter Emerges as Key Player for Giants
Abdul Carter is stepping into the spotlight.
This past Sunday, he showcased the talent that made him the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft—a player the Giants expected to disrupt their opponents.
“I think it was a statement performance,” Carter remarked after a tough game against the Commanders, where the Giants lost 29 to 21.
The message? No more overlooking him.
“I’ve been focusing on watching more film and improving my skills,” he explained. “Being a better teammate is essential, and that’s where I need to concentrate.”
Carter had a standout fourth quarter. He made a significant impact by tackling Jeremy McNichols for an eight-yard loss, leading to a fumble that he recovered himself.
In a string of plays, he lateraled the ball, but an official ruling stated the runner hadn’t been down.
“I wish we could have scored on that play,” he said. “We need to keep pushing forward.” Carter admitted that while he was being tackled, he noticed his teammate was open and tried to create something.
On the second drive, he executed a strip sack on Marcus Mariota and recorded three tackles for losses.
Interim coach Mike Kafka praised him, stating, “He played with intensity today. It’s a step forward; he just needs to build on performances like this.”
It appears that he’s waking up to his potential.
Kafka is likely to keep him in the game without holding him back further.
Brian Burns stated, “It was his breakout moment. He had a significant game. From what I can tell, he executed his assignments well and made crucial plays. I’m proud of him right now.”
Burns has been instrumental in supporting Carter’s development.
“I see real growth,” Kafka added. “He’s taking ownership and learning from his experiences. He shows up early and stays late, looking to improve himself and assist his teammates. It’s all about that teamwork and making the group stronger.”
So far, Carter has notched 2.5 sacks this season.
Dexter Lawrence remarked, “Great players achieve consistency over time. That’s something he can attain. He just needs to stick with the process and continually bring that mindset each game.”
Carter is committed to that journey.
“I certainly want to see positive outcomes,” he concluded.
