“In Old Yeller, a family comes to see a beloved stray dog as an integral part of the family. The climax of the film is when the father is forced to shoot Old Yeller when the dog becomes infected with rabies. “This is a tragic and heartbreaking moment. We are out of compassion for the inevitable threat to their lives and to end the suffering these dogs must endure,” Disney said in a letter to the PCCC.
