Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: Live F1 coverage of the season’s final qualifying session

There is only one qualifying session left for the 2024 F1 season.

But today at Yas Marina, everything is at stake.

The season ends with this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but the F1 Constructors' Championship remains at stake. McLaren entered the weekend with a 21-point advantage over Ferrari in the standings and could be in a good position heading into Saturday. Not only did both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri perform well in Friday's dual practice session (Norris was second in FP1 and topped the timesheets in FP2 with Piastri right behind him), Charles Leclerc was given a 10 grid penalty. At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Ferrari installed a new Energy Store (ES) on its SF-24, exceeding the two allowed by the Sporting Regulations without penalty.

Still, anything can happen when lap times really matter, and anything could have happened this season. That's why we'll be following all the action live from Abu Dhabi. The final qualifying session for the 2024 F1 season begins at 9am ET, so check back early and often.

All updates are in Eastern Time.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Q1

9:15: Perez's lap time improved and the Red Bull driver finished third.

9:13: With just under five minutes remaining in Q1, there are five players in the drop zone: Jack Doohan, Liam Lawson, Alexander Albon, Perez and Colapinto.

Perez and Colapinto have not posted any times yet as their lap times have been deleted due to exceeding track limits.

9:10: McLaren finished the first push lap with Piastri in fourth and Norris in fifth. Haas looked in good form all weekend and is now behind Carlos Sainz Jr. and Max Verstappen, who are currently in a one-two, but also behind Nico Hulkenberg.

9:08: Although Perez's time was good enough to take him to the top of the timesheets, his lap time was removed because he exceeded the track limit at Turn 1. The same thing happened to Williams driver Franco Colapinto.

Track limits may be an issue today, so here's a friendly reminder.

9:06: Stroll set his first Q1 time, but both McLaren teams are currently in great form, with Sergio Perez still under pressure to retain his F1 seat next season.

9:02: Lance Stroll was the first driver on the track.

9:01: The green light has been given in Abu Dhabi, but no cars have taken to the track yet.

9:00: Okay, friends, let's get started.
