Accused Assassin Requests to Avoid Prison Garb in Court

The individual charged with the violent assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk is refusing to wear a prison uniform and shackles during his court appearances. Tyler Robinson’s legal team has submitted this request in a 21-page motion to Judge Tony Graf.

In their filing, the attorneys referenced the case of Brian Koberger, who was convicted of murdering four University of Idaho students, suggesting that it sets a precedent. They argued that Robinson has a constitutional right to a fair trial.

The lawyers have also requested a closed hearing regarding the issue of physical restraints for Robinson, asserting that various developments in the case have led to widespread publicity—potentially biasing future jurors. They expressed concern that the constant imagery of Robinson in a prison jumpsuit could skew public perception, implying guilt and leading jurors to believe he deserves the death penalty.

Kirk was fatally shot on September 10 during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University. Should Robinson be found guilty, he faces the possibility of execution. Following his arrest, authorities announced that he would be subject to round-the-clock surveillance in jail.

In a notable detail, one of the markings found on an ammunition casing linked to Robinson mentioned “Bella Ciao,” a song often associated with Antifa. Additionally, authorities discovered unfired shell casings with striking inscriptions, including provocative messages.

Reports indicate that Robinson confessed to the crime during a conversation with his father after his arrest on Thursday night.

In the days following Kirk’s assassination, President Donald Trump classified Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, directing federal agencies to investigate its activities. There are also unsettling reports regarding Robinson’s involvement in a controversial online subculture.
