Shocking video shows an apparent drunk driver driving the wrong way in Milwaukee on Monday night nearly crashing into Vice President Kamala Harris' motorcade.
The 55-year-old local man took the exit ramp on the opposite side of Interstate 794 on St. Paul Avenue and within seconds passed the vehicle of the Democratic candidate and his entourage. WISN12 reported.
The driver moved to the left lane as the first car in the convoy passed, followed by more than 10 other cars, according to footage obtained by the local ABC affiliate. That included the one that took Harris to the airport.
The last vehicle in the group, driven by a Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy, stopped and arrested the wrong-way driver after he failed multiple field sobriety tests, the department said.
The man appeared to be just as confused as the people who spotted the headlights on the one-way section of the interstate.
According to an arrest report obtained by a local news station, the deputy “nearly hit a car in the VPOTUS convoy, which was very surprising, but he did not enter the freeway and was unable to hit another car.” I don't even remember it happening,'' he said. ”
“He also stated that he did not intend to harm Vice President Kamala Harris or anyone associated with her campaign,” the arrest report states.
The driver also had an open beer can in the vehicle, the report said.
He was arrested on charges of DUI and second-degree recklessly endangering safety and was held without bail, the department said.
The Secret Service said it was aware of the incident and thanked the sheriff's office for arresting the driver.
