Christopher Greger, the New Jersey suspect accused of killing his 6-year-old son by forcing him to undergo grueling training on a treadmill, was seen carrying his son’s limp body to the hospital moments before he died.
A heartbreaking video played during Gregor’s trial shows him holding the small, mangled body of Cory Micciolo as he approaches the front desk at Southern Ocean Medical Center on April 2, 2021. Ta.
William Doyle, the nurse on duty at the time, said in court testimony that Corey remained crouched in his father’s arms, barely moving, and “took his last breath as if he were dying.”
Doyle told the court the boy “didn’t show any signs of being verbal” and had his head tilted back when he was taken to the examination room. According to the Asbury Park Press.
“He was in a situation where he gave it his all,” Mr Doyle told jurors.
The injuries were so severe that Corey suffered a seizure during a CT scan, forcing medical staff to take emergency measures to try to save his life. However, they were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead shortly before 5 p.m.
An initial autopsy determined that Corey died as a result of blunt force trauma with contusion of the heart and liver with acute inflammation and sepsis.
Two weeks ago, Gregor, 31, was seen on surveillance video giving his son a nauseating workout at the Atlantic Heights clubhouse fitness center. It is said that he thought his son was too fat.
He put Corey on the treadmill and rapidly increased the speed and incline until the boy flew away.
Gregor was seen picking the child up and placing him back on his belt, but the child fell six more times and continued to struggle to catch up until the father finally slowed down.
Cory’s mother, Brianna Micciolo, who was in a custody battle with Gregor and testified at the trial in Ocean County Superior Court, said she later noticed a “strange shaped” birthmark on her son.
She said she took the boy to a pediatrician who found nothing to worry about, but the boy disclosed the abuse to the doctor.
On the day he died in the hospital, Corey woke up from a nap feeling nauseous, stumbling and slurring his speech.
Gregor, of Barnegat, New Jersey, was arrested three months later and charged with child neglect based in part on the video.
A forensic pathologist ruled in September 2021 that the boy’s death was a homicide due to chronic child abuse, including blunt force injuries to the chest and abdomen and a laceration to the heart.
Gregor was arrested on March 9, 2022 on suspicion of murder in connection with Corey’s death.
