The accused serial killer is allegedly shooting six random strangers in Chicago when he was 17.
Antonio Reyes was already in custody for the 2020 murders when prosecutors announced five murders on Thursday and four murders, including three children between three and nine years old.
“None of these people have met Antonio Reyes and there is no reason to suspect that Antonio Reyes has a reason to target them,” Cook County State lawyer Irene O'Neill Burke told reporters at a press conference. According to USA Today.
“One victim was killed when he went to a gas station to buy a pop. … Another victim was sitting in a parked car with a friend in Palm on a Sunday afternoon. … The only crime of another victim was taking his family one afternoon to buy a new puppy,” she said.
The charges against the now 21-year-old Reyes were murdered in 2020 on the southwest side of Windy City for more than nine months.
All murder victims ranged from 16 to 31 years old.
“These were six lives that were brutally taken away,” Chicago Police Principal Larry Snelling said.
“It's difficult for anyone to understand how it's easy for someone to take someone's life. …Who knows who might have been responsible for him?”
Reyes is in police custody for the murder of Luis Davaros, who was shot in the head between 2021 and June 2020. According to the Chicago Sun Times.
The attempted murder charges include three children, one of the victims who were shot and killed along with the children in his car.
Since his arrest, Reyes has also been accused of trying to kill his cellmates with a shank, and those charges are pending, prosecutors claimed. NBC reported.
He is being held without bail.
