WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brian Babin (R-Texas) on Tuesday introduced the Birthright Citizenship Act in support of President Donald Trump's executive order to stop abuse of U.S. citizenship. The bill is one of several expected to be introduced in the coming days to codify the president's executive orders.
“One of the most neglected, abused and exploited parts of our government and our immigration system and our border security system is birthright citizenship,” Babin said in an interview with Breitbart Texas on Tuesday. spoke. “This is a misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment.”
Dr. Babin explained that the Fourteenth Amendment was never intended by its framers in the mid-19th century to confer U.S. citizenship to people who are in the United States illegally.
“This is a really simple bill,” the Texas congressman explained. “This bill would automatically grant citizenship only to children born in the United States where at least one parent is a citizen or citizen of the United States. and the third is a legal immigrant serving in the U.S. military.'' A copy of the bill is attached below.
The framers of the Fourteenth Amendment specifically used the phrase “subject to jurisdiction.” Babin explained: “What the gentlemen of those days did could never be interpreted as opening the borders to everyone who wanted to have a baby. It just blows my mind that anyone would think that.”
In October 2021, Breitbart Texas reported that Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley area helped a pregnant woman who had just crossed the border from Mexico deliver her baby.
In July 2023, Texas DPS units rescued a dehydrated and clearly pregnant woman who nearly died in over 100 degree heat.

Babin said the ACLU, Democratic-led states and cities are suing the executive order Trump signed on his first day in office.
“We want these cases to work their way through the court system and all the way to the Supreme Court,” the lawmaker explained. “We want a final and absolute interpretation of this 14th Amendment, and we can know it once and for all.”
Babin expressed confidence that if the bill passes the House and receives 51 votes in the Senate, President Trump will sign it. “I know President Trump will sign this into law because this is exactly what he did yesterday with his executive order seeking to strip people of their birthright citizenship. ”
Birthright citizenship for undocumented babies was one of 10 executive orders that President Trump signed on Monday that affect illegal immigration and border security.
