Eric Close Embraces Family-Friendly Roles
Eric Close, the actor known for his parts in American Sniper and the TV series Nashville, is experiencing a rise in family-oriented projects throughout his career. He believes that his faith has played a crucial role in guiding him, feeling a divine calling to act. Close notably appeared in American Sniper and starred in Nashville from 2012 to 2017. More recently, he’s made a mark in family and faith-based films, including several Hallmark productions.
His upcoming film, Everything is Merry & Bright, set to hit theaters on November 7, depicts a mother’s quest for the perfect Christmas despite the chaos around her. Ultimately, she discovers peace in the true essence of the holiday. This comedy features a well-known cast including Emily Rose, John O’Hurley, Shari Rigby, Vanessa Benavente, and Sally Struthers.
“We always need stories that uplift us and bring us hope,” Close shared. He feels the film’s message is particularly relevant now. It’s lighthearted—something, he thinks, is really necessary in today’s world.
In addition to his film work, Close has appeared in productions like Average Joe (2024), Mulligan (2022), and Cannot Be Divided (2022). He’s also involved in the upcoming Hallmark movie Having a Holiday. Faith has been a strong foundation in his life, something he came to face more seriously after growing up in a religious environment. Although he made a commitment to Christ at 13, it wasn’t until he sought independence that it became more significant for him.
“Things got a bit overwhelming,” he reflected. “When I was about to graduate college and start my career, I remember feeling quite lost. I found myself in my apartment in downtown Los Angeles and, one day, I simply prayed. I said, ‘God, I’m not sure if you want anything to do with me, but I miss you.’
“From that moment, everything shifted. The journey has been incredible… [Faith] took on real substance for me as I grew up. As kids, we often lean on our parents’ beliefs. Then, stepping into the real world, you have to make your own choices. I chose to reach out to God, and that was powerful.”
He sees acting as a wonderful gift for himself and his family. Close expresses excitement for Everything is Merry & Bright, hoping it can provide encouragement during what can be a lonely season for many.
“We truly need each other,” he stated, acknowledging the widespread loneliness these days. “This film serves as a reminder that it’s important to uplift one another.”
