Desmond Eastwood Discusses Role in “Saints” on Fox Nation
In a recent segment on Fox Nation’s “Saints,” actor Desmond Eastwood invites viewers to explore the deeper narrative of St. Patrick, moving beyond just festive parades and shamrocks. His portrayal digs into the themes of hardship, faith, and resilience associated with this historical figure.
Reflecting on his experience, Eastwood shared, “It was truly an honor, a remarkable opportunity.” Ahead of the show’s second season launch on Sunday, he joined Sandra Smith on “America Report” to discuss the significance of his role and the impact of Martin Scorsese, who serves as an executive producer.
He expressed admiration for Scorsese, saying, “It’s special to have someone of his stature involved.” The episode details St. Patrick’s incredible life, beginning with his capture as a teenager by Irish raiders, leading to his enslavement and eventual escape back to England.
Years later, driven by his faith, he made the choice to return to Ireland, dedicating his life to converting his captors to Christianity. Today, recognized as the Apostle of Ireland, Patrick’s efforts are credited with establishing the churches, schools, and monasteries that form the cornerstone of Ireland’s Christian traditions.
Eastwood recounted that he auditioned for the role while traversing the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. He humorously speculated that the mountainous backdrop might have added an “earthy” quality to his interpretation of this ancient icon.
“I was in the Atlas Mountains during my audition,” he said, adding, “I’m not sure if it made a difference, but it probably did.” He feels a personal connection to portraying such a revered figure, especially as an Irish native.
He concluded with thoughts on the universal themes of transformation and resilience found in St. Patrick’s story, suggesting that, “I think many people can connect with it, and it feels especially relevant today.”
Subscribers to Fox Nation can stream the episodes featuring St. Patrick, part of the series “Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints.”
