Actor Neal McDonough has his first on-screen kiss with his real-life wife

Neil McDonough Breaks Personal Boundaries in “The Last Rodeo”

Neil McDonough, an actor known for his strong principles regarding personal conduct on screen, has stepped outside his comfort zone in his latest film, “The Last Rodeo.” In this project, he shares a significant on-screen kiss with Ruvé, his longtime love.

Reflecting on his time in the Western genre, McDonough expressed excitement about finally being able to “kiss the girl” after having been involved in various projects, including “Yellowstone.” He admitted that returning to this type of film brought back a unique thrill.

After facing challenges in Hollywood, McDonough leaned on his faith, particularly when it came to a pivotal scene in the film. He noted, “I wasn’t exactly in a place where I could be kissing girls,” underlining his commitment to not sharing romantic moments with anyone other than his wife.

Recounting the influence of Ruvé and her role in the film, he mentioned needing her support in what turned out to be a crucial moment, jokingly persuading her to participate in the kiss scene. “I said to her, ‘You have to kiss the girl at the end,’” he recalled, playfully highlighting her initial doubts about acting.

This kiss wasn’t just another film scene for McDonough. Directed by his friend John Avnett, it was more like a celebration of their enduring marriage, which has withstood the pressures of Hollywood. “It was one of my favorite moments on set, kissing my wife while embodying the character I always dreamed of playing,” he shared.

McDonough remarked on how filming the scene came with its own set of humorous challenges, particularly with their daughter London present. She playfully interrupted the takes, highlighting both the family atmosphere and the fun involved in making the movie.

In a deeper reflection, McDonough expressed how this moment allowed him to showcase his love for Ruvé. “What I cherish more than anything is demonstrating my love for her,” he said. “It felt like a culmination of everything I’ve faced in my life.” He also acknowledged the support of his friends and mentors, expressing gratitude for their roles in his journey.

“The Last Rodeo,” which revolves around themes of faith, family, and redemption in the high-stakes world of bull riding, is expected to resonate with audiences when it premieres on May 23rd.
