De Niro Voices Support for Democratic Response to Trump
Actor Robert De Niro made a surprising appearance on MSNBC’s “The Weekend” panel, sharing candid thoughts on the Democratic Party’s response to President Donald Trump.
During his Saturday visit, De Niro discussed the recent “No Kings” protests happening nationwide and commented on the party’s approach. Overall, he seemed to have admiration for various figures within the Democratic Party, particularly New York Attorney General Letitia James, who has recently faced indictments but continues to confront Trump directly.
“There’s something about this,” he noted. “I really like Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff—they’re all strong. And Letitia James? She’s fighting back, saying, ‘Damn you!’”
When host Jonathan Capehart responded, De Niro reiterated his stance. “This is where we are. Letitia is saying, ‘I’m not going to fall for this guy; I’m not afraid of him.’ God bless her for that, and everyone else should feel the same.”
Previously, De Niro had shown support for the “No Kings” movement, which he highlighted in Instagram videos that were quite explicit.
“The first ‘No Kings’ protests happened 250 years ago,” he reminded viewers, reflecting on America’s fight against British rule. “We declared independence and battled for democracy. Since then, we’ve been building this democracy—often in a challenging, messy way. We’ve even fought two world wars to protect it.”
Now, he warns of a “candidate for king” who seeks to undermine these hard-won freedoms. “Donald, that’s it. We will rise again, nonviolently and with our voices, to declare that there is no king.”
On that Saturday, the country saw nearly 2,000 protests planned in major cities. Reports indicated that around 100,000 participants gathered in New York’s Times Square alone.
