Actor Timothy Busfield Faces Allegations of Child Sexual Abuse During Filming of 'The Cleaning Lady'

Arrest Warrant Issued for Timothy Busfield

New Mexico authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Timothy Busfield, a director and Emmy Award-winning actor, on allegations of child sexual abuse.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the Albuquerque Police Department, a child reported that Busfield had touched her inappropriately while on the set of the TV series “The Cleaning Lady,” which he directed and acted in.

The child claimed the first incident occurred when she was just 7 years old and mentioned that Busfield touched her several times, specifically three or four. She also stated that he had inappropriately touched her again when she was eight years old, with those incidents happening about five or six times.

The complaint indicates that the child’s mother contacted Child Protective Services, stating that the abuse happened between November 2022 and spring 2024.

Busfield’s attorney and representative have not responded to requests for comment as of late Friday.

A judge has signed an arrest warrant that details two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor.

The child, who has only been identified by initials, is reportedly dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety. According to the complaint, a social worker noted that the child experienced nightmares involving being touched and would wake up feeling scared.

It was also mentioned that the child felt unable to speak out due to Busfield’s position as director, worried about potential repercussions.

The investigation into these claims began in November 2024 after a call from a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital, where the child’s parents sought help based on a law firm’s advice.

“The Cleaning Lady” aired for four seasons on FOX until 2025. The show stars Elodie Yung as a Cambodian doctor who becomes involved with organized crime after witnessing a murder while in the U.S. to care for her son.

Warner Bros. produced the series and conducted its own investigation regarding the abuse allegations but reportedly could not substantiate the claims.

Busfield is well-known for his performances in “The West Wing,” “Field of Dreams,” and “Thirty Something,” the latter of which earned him an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1991.

He is married to actress Melissa Gilbert, but there has been no response from her publicist as of now.
