Actress Cate Blanchett, Worth $95 Million, Calls Herself ‘Middle Class’ at Cannes

A-list actress Cate Blanchett was ridiculed Thursday for claiming she is part of the middle class despite her estimated net worth of $95 million. The 55-year-old Oscar winner faced backlash after blurting out her claims during a panel discussion at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

“But I can honestly say that my interactions with refugees in the field and in resettlement settings have completely changed my view of the world, and I’m incredibly grateful for that,” she said.

But despite her attempts to shine a light on refugee issues, fans pounced on her ridiculous claims that she is worth $95 million and is middle class.

Fans were taken aback by Blanchett’s insistence that she was just a member of the middle class.

“Who does Cate Blanchett consider herself ‘middle class’ compared to? Jeff Bezos? Rich people are so unrealistic,” one X user wrote, slamming Blanchett, but later deleted the post.

But others were less averse to being quoted, with one X poster slamming Blanchett, writing that she was “out of touch with reality.”

Another person joked: “The celebrity bubble is hilarious.”

Others have suggested that Blanchett, whose main residence is in the UK, may be describing herself in a British way, using “middle class” terms to describe someone who is neither poor nor aristocratic, just like some Brits use words like poor, middle class and royalty to describe class, they say.
