Diane Ladd Passes Away at 89

Oscar-nominated actress Diane Ladd passed away on Monday at the age of 89, as confirmed by her daughter, actress Laura Dern.

In a heartfelt statement, Dern remarked, “My greatest hero and profound talent, my mother, passed by me this morning at her home in Ojai, California. She was the best daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist, and empathetic spirit that only a dream could create.” She continued, noting, “We were blessed to have her, and now she’s flying with the angels.”

Ladd had a remarkable career, gaining popularity for her portrayal of a witty waitress in Martin Scorsese’s film, “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore,” which earned her an Academy Award nomination. It’s interesting to think about some of her iconic lines, like “Kiss me where the sun doesn’t shine.” Those zingers really stuck with audiences.

She received further nominations for her roles alongside Dern in “Wild at Heart” and “Rambling Rose.” Her talent truly shone across both the big screen and stage, marking her Broadway debut in “Carry Me Back to Morningside Heights” back in 1968. Ladd also graced television with roles in shows such as “The Detectives,” “Naked City,” “Perry Mason,” and “The Fugitive,” among others.

Her film credits include titles like “Wild Angels,” “All Night Long,” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” She also made a mark with an Emmy nomination for her role in “Grace Under Fire” and played a significant role in the pilot for “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.”

More recently, Ladd appeared as the matriarch of the O’Brien family in the Hallmark Channel series “Chesapeake Shores.” As fans and fellow actors reflect on her life, it’s clear she left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry, remembered for her spirit and significant contributions.
